It was love at first sight. From that moment, I knew we were made for each other. The thought of collaborating ideas, that would be the topic of discussion as we'd walk by, was mind blowing. From that first moment, we have been together and are still bonded to this very day. Yes, I'm talking about my bow ties. That piece of garment that gives me joy when I fasten my collar button. It's the translator of any ensemble. Whether it's business, casual, or street style, bow ties are welcomed in any environment with respect and admiration.
Starting as a bow tie novice, I only purchased snap-ons, because I was too lazy to learn the self-tie method. It was good in the beginning, but I soon noticed, most of the ties I was purchasing were not my preferred choices. The flyyest bows were always in the self-tie section. Now don't get me wrong, there are some great clip-ons out there, but most of the great patterns are self-tie. Most of the great colors, self-tie. Reversible styles, self-tie!
So, why did I decide to tie the knot? It was Essence Fest weekend and I conjured, in my mind, the perfect outfit. I purchased everything I wanted to wear, but couldn't find the right bow tie. I went from store to store, clip-on to clip-on, but luck wasn't on my side. I decided "forget a bow tie, I'll just rock my shirt with the top button open." Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye was a ray of pink, blue, yellow, and white wrapped around a mannequin's neck. As I excitedly ask the salesperson to sell the neck piece, she informed me that it was a self-tie. Deflated but not defeated, I had to man up and learn to tie. After 30 minutes of disgust and heartache, I finally got it! The tie was purchased and my outfit was complete.
Now, Flyy Guys and Girls (I see you ladies rocking them), learn to tie your own bows. It will give you the ability to be limitless when purchasing this particular accessory. Whether it's a beginner's knot or an experienced knot, you will still get the respect from those who can't, because you can..
